Hello LR35R! Really, a lot more light than necessary....but we don't buy our Fenix lights for "necessary", do we? One do-all switch, placed in the perfect position, in an ergonomic body that stays in the hand and makes locating the power switch really easy. And, battery life that "will go oooonnn" (yes, crappy Titanic reference), and a dedicated charging port. The throw and splash is fantastic, as this is not a specialists light, but a hand-held floodlight for every purpose and need. Only at the lower lumen levels is there a visibly distinct circle of soft light, with a gentle halo. Once you crank it up, the side-to-side flood is, well, wonderful, and the increased halo becomes useful light, not simply a by-product.
Need ALL the forest to be lit up? Easy.
Need the entire road from here to way down there lit up? Easy.
